About the Latta Lecture

The John S. Latta Lecture was established in 1980 by the College of Medicine Alumni Association (now the Alumni Council) to honor John S. Latta, MD, for his distinguished service to the College of Medicine. Dr. Latta taught embryology and histology at UNMC from 1921 until 1963 and served as chair of the anatomy department for 20 years. Beloved by students and respected by colleagues, he was regarded as one of the College’s most admired faculty members.

Dr. Latta passed away in 1989 at the age of 94. His son, Rex Latta, MD, a 1957 graduate of the College of Medicine, resides in Omaha.
